        Performance

      Default:

When this setting is absent, the default behavior is equivalent to UPDATE_NOTE_MINIMUM=20

      UI equivalent:

        None

      Description:
The UPDATE_NOTE_MINIMUM setting controls how many note updates need to happen in order to trigger an view update. Increasing the number reduces the activity of the Update task. Decreasing the number will help keep database views up-to-date in a more timely fashion.

The Domino Administrator help states that "when [an 'internal to the server'] request is made to update a view, the view is only updated if there are at least 20 note changes since the last update and if the view has been accessed in the last 7 days. The view update service increases the speed of the view access time when a view is opened in the IBM Lotus Notes client. If views are not updated often, the only effect on users or applications is a slow view open time because views are automatically updated when opened [by an external action initiated by a user or application]." This happens because views are usually configured to automatically refresh when opened. The exception is that when an individual view is deliberately configured to refresh manually. From a Notes client, this mean that View / Refresh or F9 will update the view index.

      Recommendation:
This setting should be present and set to a number greater than 20. Doing so with decrease Update task resource demands.
