      Description:
      Manages MIME simplification in Domino 8.5.

      Important: In Domino 8.5.1 and later, you can manage these features in the mail policy settings document and do not need to use NOTES.INI settings.

      When Notes sends workflow items, such as invitations, updates, cancellations, and acceptances, to SMTP users, it converts the workflow items to iCalendar items and embeds the iCalendar items into MIME. These SMTP users could be Notes users, Outlook/Exchange users, or users of other clients. To allow the iCalendar items to reference an HTML body and get the richest rendering, Notes creates complex MIME. Exchange 2003 does not understand this complex MIME and removes the iCalendar part. This results in an e-mail message with an iCalendar attachment. If the recipient is on Exchange 2003 or if the message routes through an Exchange 2003 server, the attachment must be opened and accepted, and problems with workflow can occur.

      To better support Exchange 2003 users, you can enable MIME simplification. However, when MIME simplification is enabled, Notes cannot have a rich HTML body. To prevent data loss, Notes puts the rich body content into an attachment added to the e-mail message. For Notes users over SMTP in your domain, be aware that the richness of the message body is therefore degraded, in the same way that Notes degrades the richness for Exchange 2003 users.

      MIME simplification is off by default, and controlled by the DisallowRelatedIcalendarMime NOTES.INI parameter. As with any NOTES.INI parameter, it can be pushed to clients using a policy. It is important to add the parameter in the NOTES.INI file on both clients and IBM® Lotus® Domino® servers, as conversion can happen at either place.

      Valid Values are:
      0 - Complex MIME conversion occurs as usual. No richness is lost, but workflow problems may result with Exchange 2003.

      1 - Complex MIME conversion occurs as usual, unless a meeting has compatibility mode specified, in which case it is simplified for Exchange 2003 compatibility. Compatibility mode is represented by the text document property of $ICAL_COMPATIBILITY_MODE and a "1" value means it is on. If a third party creates the documents, it can set this property to control the generated MIME.

      2 - MIME conversion is simplified. Richness, but no data, is lost for all users outside your Notes domain that require MIME conversion). No problems occur with Exchange 2003.
