Notes.ini Entry

Name:

    Enable_LZ1_Encrypted_Notes

Syntax

    Enable_LZ1_Encrypted_Notes=0 / 1

Applies to:

    Servers

Add-on:

    First Release:

      8.0.1

    Obsolete since:

      Category:

        Encryption

      Default:

        0

      UI equivalent:

        None

      Description:
When mail journaling, compression and encryption are in use, there are cases for which Domino performs unnecessary conversions between LZ1 and Huffman encoding. The ENABLE_LZ1_ENCRYPTED_NOTES option was introduced as an experiment. The intention was to avoid unnecessary I/O caused by the conversions by setting ENABLE_LZ1_ENCRYPTED_NOTES=1. This configuration has not been adequately tested.

      Default:

When ENABLE_LZ1_ENCRYPTED_NOTES is absent from notes.ini or set to 0, additional, unnecessary conversions can sometimes be performed.

      Recommendation:

ENABLE_LZ1_ENCRYPTED_NOTES should always be disabled. This configuration has not been thoroughly tested with down level servers and clients.

Caveat: If 1) the entire domain (server and clients) are using 8.5 or higher, 2) journaling is enabled, and 3) LZ1 compression is in use, then ENABLE_LZ1_ENCRYPTED_NOTES=1 on the server side would improve server I/O performance.

      Restrictions:

The notes.ini option ENABLE_LZ1_ENCRYPTED_NOTES was introduced in 8.0.1. Its behavior was modified in 8.0.2 for cases involving sealed notes. As of 8.0.3 and 8.5.1 that behavior stands unchanged until further notice.

      Domino Configuration Tuner:

This setting is included in the DCT catalog of best practices.
