Name:

    MailConvertMIMEonTransfer

Syntax

    MailConvertMIMEonTransfer=0 / 1

Applies to:

    Servers

Add-on:

    First Release:

      6.0

    Obsolete since:

      Category:

        Mail, SMTP

      Default:

        0

      UI equivalent:

        None

      Description:
Enables or disables the router to perform conversions for MIME messages. This can help minimize conversion overhead on the server running the SMTP listener task.

      Valid Values are:

0 - Router does not perform conversions for MIME messages

1 - Router performs conversions for MIME messages

SPR# JFOR4WJNDU - Added an additional setting for the MailConvertMIMEonTransfer Notes.ini setting. When set to 2, MIME mail being sent to "No Preference" recipients will not be converted before transfer. This has been fixed in releases 6.0.5, 6.5.3, and 5.0.13.

The Router usually preserves incoming message formats. If the incoming format is MIME, the router will only convert it if the destination server is running version 4 (which doesn't understand MIME), or the recipient 'prefers Notes Rich Text' via their Person document. Setting MailConvertMimeOnTransfer=1 will cause the Router to convert all MIME messages to Notes Rich Text when they are transferred to another server, regardless of the version. This makes an R5 SMTP hub behave more like an R4 MTA, where all content is always converted.

By Default, the Router will NOT convert MIME to native format unless required to do so.

      Recommendation:
Use of this setting should be discontinued. Completely remove it from all NOTES.INI and configuration documents.
